More than 200 evacuated at Gulfport-Biloxi airport after email threat
More than 200 employees and passengers at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport were evacuated this morning for about two hours after an email threat was received.
Chaille Munn, spokesperson for the airport, said the email came in early this morning and out of an abundance of caution, an evacuation was ordered about 9:30 a.m. The airport was given the all clear just before 11:30 a.m.
Security officials are conducting a sweep of the building, Munn said, and the airport hopes to have passengers back in the building and headed to their flights as soon as possible.
As of 10 a.m., a Sun Country and a Delta flight have been put on hold while the security sweep takes place.
Gulfport Police say other airports in the state also received the email threat. Stennis International Airport in Hancock County was evacuated at 8:30 a.m. for about two hours. There were no passengers and the evacuation affected only employees.
The airport in Tupelo also was evacuated but returned to normal operations just after 10 a.m., according to our sister station, WCBI. Columbus Police Chief Joe Daughtry also said a bomb threat was made to Temple Bnai Israel.
