More charges being explored in killing of Carl the Rooster

An update on Carl 2.0, more charges may be brought forward after the rooster was taken and killed.

The Ocean Springs Police Department tells News 25 they are exploring charges against the group of men seen walking with suspect Kendra Shaffer in the CCTV footage that led to her arrest.

Shaffer, a Jones County juvenile corrections officer, is charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty after she admitted to police it was her in the video.

She did not admit to killing Carl and did not respond to a reporter’s question as she was charged and fired. Jones County Sheriff’s Investigator J.D. Carter said, “I can go ahead and tell you immediately that Sheriff Berlin does not tolerate, will not tolerate, behavior such as this on or off duty.”

A New Orleans style second line honoring the beloved rooster is being planned for Sunday in Ocean Springs.
