Mobile man taken into custody in George County charged with carjacking and kidnapping

During the early morning hours of Sunday, April 21, 2024, the George County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a female reporting that her vehicle had been taken.

Inside of the vehicle was an adult passenger and the victim’s three juvenile children, ages eleven, thirteen, and ten-months-old.

While checking on a vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway on Highway 98 near the weigh station, the victim reported that a male jumped in her vehicle and took her vehicle along with her children and the adult occupant.

The suspect, identified as Demetrius Young of Mobile, AL, was apprehended during a traffic stop conducted by George County Deputies following the initial call made to law enforcement.

Young was transported to the George County Regional Correctional Facility where he was charged with Carjacking, and four counts of Kidnapping.

During an initial appearance with a George County Justice Court Judge, Young received a $50,000 Commercial Bond for Carjacking, and a $50,000 Commercial Bond on each count of Kidnapping, totaling a $250,000 Commercial Bond. Young remains in custody of the GCRCF at this time.
