MLK Coastwide Celebration

The Martin Luther King Jr. Coastwide Celebration kicked off tonight at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Pascagoula.

Tonight was the first of many activities for the MLK Holiday Weekend.

The church was filled with worship and remembering the leader of the Civil Rights Movement. The gospel choir and praise dance team had multiple performances in addition to community members giving speeches on the importance of honoring MLK Jr.

This year’s coast wide celebration is ‘be the difference.’ That is what some of the celebration-goers hope the youth take away from this. Pastor Charles Miskell said, “It’s important to me because of what Martin Luther King has brought us from. We don’t want the dream to die so we have to keep it going. I wish we had more young people that would come out and really understand what the dream was all about.”
