MLB is back and so is big time sports betting
It may be four months later than planned, but Major League Baseball is finally having its 2020 Opening Day.
While the Washington Nationals and New York Yankees are kicking off the 60 game 2020 MLB season in Washington D.C. tonight, the Sportsbook at Scarlet Pearl in D’Iberville will be welcoming back big-time sports betting.
Since the COVID-19 shutdown caused most of the sports world to pause for an undetermined amount of time back in March, sportsbooks haven’t had as full of a betting menu as they usually have during these past few months.
Although many people have found other sporting events to bet on such as Korean baseball, NASCAR, European soccer, and horse races, the start of MLB is a step closer to normalcy in sports gambling. Scarlet Pearl Sportsbook Manager Brad Carpenter said, “Yeah, when you get one of the major sports there’s just a lot more buzz in the room. Plus the games like right now, we are taking the Korean baseball in Japan at 4:30 in the morning. So it’s going to be nice to have some games in prime time so people can sit-back, have a drink, and watch the game and not have to set their alarm for 4:30 in morning. Oh yeah, we’re seeing a much, much more of an uptick in betting both in ticket counts and in the amount of the bets. So, yeah, we’re preparing for that and hopefully have a great weekend.”
The NBA is the next professional league set to restart its 2020 season on July 30th and the NHL will start 2020 playoffs on August 1st.
