Mississippi to receive funding to help with railway improvement projects

Senator Roger Wicker is celebrating a $35 million grant that will see several rail improvements between Moss Point and Helena.

This decision will bring federal resources to modernize the 121-year-old Escatawpa River Swing Bridge.

The project also enhances railway safety by improving crossings and raising the track in flood-prone areas.

In addition to that, the United States Department of Transportation is awarding funding for three other railway improvement projects that involve the state.

Alabama and Gulf Coast Railway will receive $27 million to support track rehabilitation and improvement efforts along the Gulf Coast.

The Louisiana and North West Railroad Company is receiving money to replace eight high-priority bridges in six states including Mississippi.

The Tennessee Southern Railroad Company will receive funding to replace rail, ties, and ballast in six states, including Mississippi.
