Mississippi State’s Will Rogers ready to cap off historic season in Liberty Bowl
Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers already broke the single-season school records for passing yards and touchdowns in late November, previously held by Dak Prescott.
Some air raid offense déjà vu for Texas Tech against its former coach when the two teams meet up for the first time in 51 years in tomorrow’s Auto Zone Liberty Bowl.
Rogers leading the way for the Bulldogs with more than 4,400 yards through the air to go along with 35 touchdowns. His secret weapon: pre-snap reads. “It can be nerve-racking at times, but it’s the thing that Coach Leach does. He gives you full freedom in this offense to do that. When you’re up at the line, you have access to the whole playbook, so if you see something you like, he’s not going to get mad at you for checking it or anything like that – within reason. Obviously, there are certain times where you don’t need to check a certain play or something like that in the game situation, but he does a good job of just letting us work, letting us play and I think he’s trusted me to get us in the right play.”
The Bulldogs are quietly top 10 in the country with 12 consecutive bowl game appearances. Mississippi State and the Red Raiders will kick things off at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday from the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis.
