Mississippi State’s Tanner Allen named SEC Player of the Year

The Mississippi State baseball program has been flirting around the top 10 all season long and a big reason why is Tanner Allen.

Today, the senior outfielder was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Year as well as a first-team All-SEC selection coming off a banner regular season for MSU.

He leads not only the Bulldogs, but the entire league with a .387 batting average and is the only hitter to hit over .400 in SEC play.

The man truly did it all in 2021 as the only SEC player to finish top 10 in the league in average, on base percentage, slugging, runs scored, RBIs, total bases, and hits in the regular season.

Now Allen is also the Boo Ferris Trophy recipient going to the best collegiate baseball player in the state of Mississippi.

They announced them all at once this year due to COVID-19.

Ole Miss Wide Receiver Elijah Moore won the Conerly Trophy.

On the Hardwood, more Rebels as Devontae Shuler takes home the Howell Trophy on the men’s side and the Gillom Trophy going to Shakira Austin.

On the JUCO diamond, Pearl River baseball winning the triple crown of post-season awards given out by the MACCC.

Head Coach Michael Avalon takes home Coach of the Year honors on the back of a fantastic 36-9 season, just a few wins shy of getting back to the World Series.

On the mound, it’s right hander Landon Gartman earning Pitcher of the Year honors with a team-leading 60 innings, 81 strikeouts, nine wins, and a 1.95 ERA among starters.

West Harrison alum Tate Parker wins Player of the Year while hitting .322 with 14 bombs.
