Mississippi State’s Quinndary Weatherspoon wins Howell Trophy

On the men’s side, Quinndary Weatherspoon won the Howell Trophy in a family affair, beating out younger brother Nick Weatherspoon as well as Southern Miss standout Cortez Edwards.
The junior guard made good on his second appearance as a finalist becoming the first Bulldog to win the honor since 2012 which ends a five year run of Ole Miss dominance.
Either way the Weatherspoon brothers are keeping it in the family up in Starkville. Quinndary Weatherspoon said, “It is strange kind of just knowing how we used to play in the backyard and now we’re playing at the collegiate level together, so it’s exciting and I love playing with him.”
Mississippi State Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ben Howland said, “I’m happy for both of them. It’s pretty special that they’re playing their college career together after spending a couple of years in high school together, and the relationship that they have with each other is obviously special as well as with their teammates.”
The Weatherspoon brothers won back-to-back-to-back state titles at Velma Jackson from 2013 to 2015.
