Mississippi State Trooper cleared of any wrongdoing in McComb after body cam footage released

An incident involving a state trooper in McComb earlier this month has been investigated and multiple departments have cleared the trooper from any wrongdoing.

This is bodycam footage from August 5th. Trooper Hayden Falvey made a traffic stop on Eugene Lewis after Lewis was allegedly speeding on Delaware Avenue.

Lewis was stopped on Schmidt Road, which is rural and unpopulated.

The investigation showed there was a strong marijuana odor coming from the vehicle. It was determined Lewis’ license was suspended and he was driving without liability insurance.

Lewis admitted on video that he had smoked marijuana before he was stopped.

So, with probable cause, Trooper Falvey placed Lewis in handcuffs and began searching the vehicle.

Moments later, the investigation showed Gary and Derrius Lewis drove up and identified themselves as Lewis’ brothers.

The trooper gave an order to the two men to return to their vehicle because he did not have backup.

The brothers initially protested, but eventually left.

That is when Trooper Falvey tried to place Lewis under arrest, but the man resisted. At this time, the trooper radioed dispatch for assistance.

He was still trying to get Lewis in the back of the MHP Cruiser when Lewis’ brothers returned.

That’s when Lewis, who had not yet been buckled in, exited the vehicle and proceeded to shout at the trooper along with his brothers.

Another person arrived and asked the trooper if he needed help which is when Falvey said to watch Lewis’ brothers while they waited for backup.

Minutes later, another trooper arrived on scene to help and all three brothers were placed under arrest.
