Mississippi State softball player passes away from ovarian cancer
By all accounts, Mississippi State softball player Alex Wilcox was a friend to all and an inspiration to many.
Last night, the freshman passed away at the age of 18 in her hometown of Brantley, Alabama.
The news hits close to home here on the Gulf Coast as well, especially for the local softball teams that participated in Teal Night at Ocean Springs back in April. The fundraiser was created to support Alex during her fight with ovarian cancer which started during her junior year of high school in 2015.
Despite the many rounds of treatment, Alex still led Brantley High School to multiple state championships and even played in eight games as a freshman at Mississippi State.
Her visitation will be held tomorrow with the funeral set for Thursday in Brantley.
