Mississippi State football signee to also play baseball in college

For as good as former East Central tight end Brad Cumbest is at football, his senior numbers were even more gaudy on the baseball diamond.

Playing both sports at Mississippi State is something that’s been on his wish list for a long time and finally that wish has been granted.

Late Friday night, Cumbest announced he was granted permission to play both sports and maybe even join the Bulldogs on their future regional endeavors.

His football contributions go without saying as one of the key cogs in East Central’s run to the 4A state championship game back in December. Likewise, Cumbest dominated for the baseball team as well, hitting eight home runs at the plate while posting a 1.01 ERA on the mound.

He could even hear his name called in next month’s MLB Draft from June 4th through the 6th.
