Mississippi State baseball eager to defend National Title
For the first time in program history, Mississippi State baseball entering the new year as defending national champions.
Already more than seven months since that OmaDawg pile, but still the lingering confidence in Starkville that comes with winning it all.
Now that can do one of two things for a team: either let all of the positive reinforcement go to the head or let it serve as the driving force behind feeling that feeling again. Pitcher Landon Sims said, “Kind of just knowing what it feels like to be the last man on top, I think it gives us an extra push to do it again. We knew how good it felt to do it, so we’re going to do everything we can to get another one.”
Head Coach Chris Lemonis said, “Their attention spans are not real long, so they don’t stay focused on it too long, so they’ve been pretty good. They’ve been probably the best. They’re ready for the next day, the next drill. It gets hard here in the community a little bit and it’s a good thing, but our fan base is so awesome. Like I tell them, everyone is always patting them on the back, great job. Well, we’ve got a new job.”
The Bulldogs ended the 2021 season with an overall record of 52-18.
