Mississippi Sound Coalition meeting on Bonnet Carre Spillway

The Mississippi Sound Coalition held a special meeting this afternoon.

The Harrison County supervisor’s conference room was filled with several Coast and statewide leaders to discuss the next steps in the Bonnet Carre Spillway lawsuit.

In January, the U.S. District Court ruled that the U.S. Corps of Engineers must consult with the National Marine Fisheries before opening the Bonnet Carre Spillway in the future.

Support beyond South Mississippi is needed to be successful and Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann was present to show that he’s all in. “It’s a unique mixture of water and religion and people and it’s just phenomenal and we are losing it because of what I consider uneducated actions of the corps in opening the Bonnet Carre Spillway without opening the others, so they’re just dumping all their water on us and I think it’s arbitrary and capricious for them to do that.”

The Mississippi Sound Coalition will continue to meet as they prepare for court.
