Mississippi Soon to be the Only State Without an Equal Pay Law

While 2020 will mark the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment being passed, making it legal for women to vote, here today, 99 years later, it looks like Mississippi will soon be the only state in the U.S. that does not have an equal pay law.

Recently, neighboring Alabama’s House of Representatives unanimously passed a bill creating a state law to prohibit employers from paying differently based only on race or sex.

Supporters of the Alabama push for pay equity say it’s critical for states to have laws prohibiting pay discrimination along with the federal equal pay law.
