Mississippi Senate unanimously passes resolution to sever ties with Russia
As the war in Ukraine escalates, the Mississippi Senate is calling for the state to cut ties to Russia.
Today, the Senate unanimously passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 562, condemning the invasion of Ukraine and to cut ties with Russia.
The resolution says Mississippi would sever all economic, financial, and other connections with Russia and its businesses.
This includes the sale, purchase, distribution, or storage of alcoholic beverages from Russia.
Also, the investment of public employees’ retirement system assets in businesses or financial institutions owned by Russia or its citizens as well as the investment in Russian businesses through Mississippi Development Authority.
And, the use of Russian vendors for any goods or service for public entities.
If approved by the House, a copy will be sent to President Biden and the Ukrainian ambassador to the U.S.
