Mississippi sees decrease in average cases of COVID per week

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The state of Mississippi is reporting 34 confirmed deaths from the coronavirus and 795 new cases as of Tuesday.

The Health Department said Tuesday that Mississippi has had more than 73,200 reported cases and over 2,100 virus deaths at last count.

Overall, Mississippi cases have been declining in recent weeks after a July surge of new cases and deaths.

The state has only seen one day within a 10-day period with more than 1,000 new cases reported.

On July 29, the state’s seven-day average peaked at 1,390 cases. On Monday, the state’s seven-day average was below 700. The state has about 3 million people.
