Mississippi Rising Coalition Meeting
Mississippians along the Coast are on the rise, standing against what they call hate in the state.
Tonight, in the Ocean Springs Municipal Public Library, the young, old, black, white, straight and LGBT community sat in a circle of unison for the inaugural Mississippi Rising Coalition Public Meeting.
Founder Lea Campbell tells News 25 she started the group after becoming fed up with the recent amount of hate she’s seen within the state, whether it’s the controversial House Bill 1523, the push to have a state flag for all, or the recent flyers left in Ocean Springs by the KKK targeting the LGBT community.
In attendance was Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran, who firmly stood against the KKK’s message and says she will do all she can to protect her residents.
Campbell also announced her board members. They include a Presbyterian minister, a member of the LGBT community and an attorney with the Department of Justice.
