Mississippi residents share opinions on Supreme Court abortion hearing

The Supreme Court’s hearing on Mississippi’s abortion law will be held tomorrow and with cases like these come varying opinions.

The state is asking the court to overrule both the Roe v. Wade decision and the ruling in 1992’s Planned Parenthood v. Casey hearing.

This request by Governor Reeves has sparked the community to share their opinions on the case.

The nonprofit organization Mississippi Abortion Access Coalition posted to Facebook saying “The fundamental right to bodily autonomy should not rest in the hands of flip-flopping politicians. We do not need government interference in our reproductive lives and must continue to fight back against political attempts to control our bodies.”

On the other side, pro-life advocate Mika Hartman says she believes this would be the first step in the right direction. “So, to protect them today is everything because a human is a human no matter how small. So, we have to make the decision to protect lives. So, when I saw that I am pro-life, I am pro all life. I’m from conception all the way to death.”

Justices on the court recently allowed Texas to keep a law banning abortions after cardiac activity is detected, usually around six weeks of pregnancy.
