Mississippi residents receive first dose COVID-19 vaccine at the Coast Coliseum

Today at the Coast Coliseum, the National Guard planned to vaccinate 500 Mississippi residents with their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

COVID-19 appointments canceled Monday due to freezing weather have been rescheduled to this coming Saturday. Saturday will be the first time the Coliseum is open on the weekend for COVID vaccines.

The National Guard is ensuring everyone who had a scheduled appointment gets their chance to get the vaccine. Coliseum Site Officer Lt. Justin Forest said, “We have increased our personnel on site. So, we’ll have enough personnel on site to assist and have traffic running smoothly and we have the police response helping to direct traffic. The people from Monday, the ones that had their appointments canceled, their appointments will be routed to this Saturday. So, we will be operating a site on Saturday here.”

More vaccine sites have opened back up after closing due to recent freezing weather. Check the Mississippi State Department of Health website for updated COVID vaccine site information.
