Mississippi Red Cross Launches Natl. Home Fire Safety Campaign in Gautier

This month, the American Red Cross Mississippi Region is launching a national home fire preparedness campaign in hopes of reducing the number of injuries and deaths caused from home fires by 25% within the next five years. Locally, the program kicks-off in Gautier on Saturday, October 11th, with a neighborhood canvassing event co-sponsored by the Red Cross and the Gautier Fire Department.

Beginning at 9 a.m., volunteers will meet at the Central Fire Station, located at 2502 College Circle, for a breakfast briefing and ward/neighborhood-assignment, after which they will go door-to-door to talk with residents about fire prevention and safety tips and assess residents’ need for smoke detectors. Once the assessment is completed, an installation schedule will be coordinated by the Fire Department. Community volunteers are encourage to join the canvassing efforts.
