Mississippi Public Schools to Follow State Transgender Bathroom Use

Mississippi’s state board of education has decided to switch its stance on transgender restroom use.
Just a few weeks ago, Superintendent Dr. Carey Wright announced the department would abide by federal guidelines ordering all public schools in the U.S. to allow transgender students to use the restroom that matched their gender identities rather than their biological genders. Following pressure from state legislators, the Mississippi board has done a 180.
The board made the 9-0 vote Tuesday. The move came after Dr. Wright came under sharp criticism for her initial stance that Mississippi’s state education apparatus would follow the federal guidance calling for transgender students to be treated consistently with the gender they identify as.
