Mississippi Power offers storm preparation tips
While you can’t stop a storm from happening, you can prepare before it hits and with the peak of hurricane season here, Mississippi Power offered tips to help prepare for storms.
The Atlantic Hurricane Season is from June 1st to November 30th each year and it’s always important to be prepared for a hurricane or tropical storm.
To help prepare for storms, remember to install a smart phone app that will alert you to severe weather in the area.
Prepare a storm kit that includes flashlights, batteries, water, and nonperishable food items.
Charge cell phones, tablets, and other electronic devices before the severe weather moves in.
Most importantly, know how to safely operate your generator. Mississippi Power Public Relations Kaila Moran Griffith said, “We are going to be ready no matter what type of dangerous weather might be moving through our area. We want our customers to be ready also. So, one of our favorite things to say is prepare when the sun is shining. This is the time, when the sun is out, when there is no rain, to review your family storm plan with your family. Check in, make sure you have the supplies that you need. Check in on your elderly relatives and see what they need.”
Mississippi Power customers are encouraged to visit the company’s storm center and sign up for outage alerts, which notifies them of an outage at their home or business.
