Mississippi Power Donates Truck Loads of Toys to Salvation Army
Hundreds of children on the Mississippi Gulf Coast will have a brighter Christmas this year thanks to the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program.
Today, Mississippi Power added to that with a 40 foot truck load of toys for boys and girls in need this holiday season. Dozens of bikes, basketballs, baby dolls, music players and more filled the Salvation Army’s distribution center, all ready to be sent out to families who need a little extra help. This is something the employees of Mississippi Power do each year to spread some holiday cheer.
Salvation Army directors say they are blessed to have so many community members helping put smiles on the faces of children all along the Coast. Salvation Army Associate Area Commander Major Beth Sturdivant said, “Especially for children who realize their parents don’t have the funds. They’re probably not expecting Christmas at all and so parents can get those home, they can sneak them in the house, get them wrapped and ready so they realize on Christmas morning that they have something for them. As a parent what’s the best feeling than to make sure your children are provided for and then as a child on Christmas morning to see something under the tree that you never expected.”
The deadline for the Angel Tree Program was today, but if you’d still like to help out kids in need you can still drop off toys to any Salvation Army along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
