Mississippi Power bill reduction
Good news for Mississippi Power customers, you could be seeing a reduction in your monthly bill very soon.
There are three actions at the Public Service Commission that are related to customer bills that would all result in reductions. Two of the three actions require a vote from the commission.
The first action has to do with Mississippi Power’s filing of the general rate case for the year 2020 which encompasses all aspects of their business.
With the results from this filing, they are asking to reduce their revenue requirement or what they collect from customers by about six million dollars, which would be about 68 cents a month per customer.
The second action has to do with their annual fuel filing which shows them what it cost to purchase fuel to make their energy. The fuel filing indicates a reduction of $24 million. They attribute this to low natural gas costs and efficient work at plants.
Both of these filings require approval by the Public Service Commission.
The third action happened last year. It deals with their core business filings and an agreement made with the public utilities staff, a $2.17 reduction that will take effect the first billing cycle next month. “We are just really excited to be able to pass those savings onto our customers. Our team works incredibly hard to provide safe, reliable energy at an affordable price and again we are just excited to be able to pass this on.”
If all of these actions go into effect it will total an estimated reduction of $5.71 for every monthly bill. This will affect residential, commercial, and industrial customers of Mississippi Power.
