Mississippi Power to Assist Florida

Hermine should hit the Florida Coast sometime tonight. While the Sunshine State braces for impact, Mississippi Power is there, ready to help restore power once the storm is over.
Hermine is on its way to the Florida Gulf Coast and so is Mississippi Power. This afternoon, the company sent service men from across the state to the area where the storm is predicted to make landfall to bolster the manpower of their sister company Gulf Power in areas where lines and power systems are most likely to receive storm damage.
Mississippi Power will be sending 80 servicemen, a fleet of trucks and an 18 wheeler full of supplies to help assist with people in storm affected areas.
Jason Williamson has been serving with Mississippi Power for over 13 years. He’s no stranger to heading into dangerous storms to help others. “I’ve been to Texas, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Arkansas and this is my second or third time to Florida to help out.”
This isn’t something that’s never happened before. The Mississippi Gulf Coast received a lot of outside assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and this is our chance to pay a little of that back. “This week we remember Katrina 11 years later. I was here during Katrina and I remember the outside assistance that we received and how much it meant to us and I’m sure it means the same to those companies and their customers,” said Williamson.
Mississippi Power hopes to demonstrate the literal meaning of bringing light to Florida. Mississippi Power Spokesman Jeff Shepard said, “At Mississippi Power, we have a saying: we’re either getting ready for storm season or we’re in storm season. Right now, we’re at the height of it. We have crews that have been all over the country handling cold weather, hot weather, storm restoration, tornado restoration and so we train for this and we put our plan into place so that we can send our resources over to Florida and help those guys over there get the power back on.”
