Mississippi National Guard in Louisiana

Mississippi National guardsmen are among those pitching in to provide relief for our Louisiana neighbors dealing with massive flooding.
Soldiers from the 66th troop command, the 185th theater aviation brigade and the 1108th aviation group are building a levee outside of Baton Rouge using helicopters.
They’re using helicopters to lift sandbags weighing 4,000 pounds each and then strategically placing them to try to stop the flow of flood water.
Mississippi National Guard leaders say their commitment to helping during natural disasters doesn’t end at the state line. Lieutenant Colonel Jody Mike Smith said, “It’s very important because you know, right now it’s affecting Louisiana, but you know in a couple of weeks it could be Mississippi that needs some help. It’s very important that we have agreements between the states to help each other out. It’s more of a formal handshake, but we are here to help our neighbors and make sure they have everything they need to effect getting back to normal.”
The Mississippi National Guard is on standby in case they are needed to transport relief supports or displaced residents.
