Mississippi Highway Patrol releases travel enforcement period statistics

Mississippi Highway Patrol has released numbers from its Christmas travel enforcement period which wrapped up at midnight last night.

MHP ended up making 80 impaired driving arrests during the four-day period while also responding to 160 crashes across the state.

Of those crashes, 36 people were injured and seven killed. One of those deaths happened right here in South Mississippi.

MHP says 37-year-old William Jones of Picayune died last night after his truck left the road and overturned on Highway 11 in Pearl River County.

Just a reminder, another travel enforcement period with increased patrols begins Friday at 6 a.m. for the New Year’s holiday. That enforcement period ends January 2nd at midnight.
