Mississippi Highway Patrol releases July 4 weekend travel numbers

The Fourth of July weekend was a busy few days for Mississippi Highway Patrol. They issued almost 5,000 citations.

MHP released their numbers for the 2025 Independence Day Holiday Travel, saying they issued over 4,800 citations this travel period. 577 of those citations were for seatbelt and occupant restraint violations.

In total, there were 74 DUIs with 90 crashes reported. One fatal crash was reported in Simpson County that left one person dead and two injured.

Although citation numbers were high, they were down from 6,474 that were issued during the 2024 travel period.
