Mississippi Highway Patrol hosted job fair this weekend
This weekend, Mississippi Highway Patrol kick started the recruiting process for its next cadet class.
Troop K held a job fair Saturday afternoon at its offices north of Biloxi, with troopers talking to potential recruits about what the job entails and new benefits for Mississippi troopers.
One new selling point for the agency is the base pay for troopers has been increased for $54,000 a year. MHP Troop K Information Officer Landon Orozco said, “It’s a dangerous job. It’s a calling it’s not a, it’s not something that you come into looking for the pay. It’s not, but every increase that we can get in pay helps tremendously in just recruiting efforts alone. We’re looking to find the best in the state is what we’re looking to find and or make. So, even if you’ve never been in law enforcement before, it doesn’t stop you from coming to the highway patrol. That’s what the academy is for is to train you.”
Right now, there are more than 400 applicants statewide for the next cadet case with more than 40 of them from South Mississippi. The application deadline is August 16th.
