Mississippi Heroes surprises Biloxi family
Bringing relief to another Gulf Coast family, Mississippi Heroes surprises a Biloxi resident dedicated to caring for others.
Mississippi Heroes surprised the Cushman home with a new electric stove and wheelchair ramp. Biloxi resident Linda Cushman said, “The ramp has just deteriorated. We lost some boards and it loosened up a lot and broke off handrails. It’s dangerous. It’s not safe. We hadn’t had a stove in three years and it’s going to be a dinner, a full meal.”
Valerie Cushman was nominated to be a Mississippi Hero by her friend of 30 years Marie Picolo. “It’s nice that she listened and knew that I needed some help and nominated me.”
Valerie has been taking care of her mom around the clock as she battles Parkinson’s disease. “When you’re a caregiver. I think a lot of people assume you’re just a super woman and able to do all this other stuff.”
Mississippi Heroes recognizes Valerie’s sacrifice, partnering with Champion Dodge who donated money towards the purchase of a new stove and Home Dept in Gulfport to build a brand-new metal wheelchair ramp. “It’s the nicest thing that’s happened that I can think of.”
