Mississippi Heroes launching new program to help others

Mississippi Heroes and local organizations are working together to provide resources to caretakers and taking extra steps to ease their stress.

Once a month caregivers can come together to learn about their options and resources available to them. The best thing these organizations and Mississippi Heroes has given them is community. Mississippi Hero Cindy Lamb said, “So, a lot of people who are caregivers try to go to immediate family members and close friends to unleash some of the anxieties that they have of caring for someone, but if they’re not involved in that caretaking process, they don’t truly understand how important it is for that release.”

Cindy Lamb’s son passed battling terminal brain cancer. This was a resource she didn’t have at the time but has changed how she sees the experience for others.

Feeling heard and protecting your mental health is a top priority for caregivers, but it’s hard to do your job when you don’t have the equipment necessary.

Mississippi Heroes saw a need that went beyond a luncheon, people desperately needed accommodations to make life easier.

So, they are launching a new wheelchair ramp program. MS Heroes Executive Director Katherine Sutton said, “It’s kind of beautiful when you get to help somebody and you just kind of see their eyes sparkle with the happiness of leaving the house, or just getting to the end of the wheelchair ramp.  And they’re just so thankful and excited.”

These wheelchair ramps are going to make the life of caregivers easier and give freedom to those in care.

You can sponsor a ramp by emailing mississippiheroes@gmail.com.
