Mississippi Health Disparities Conference

Mississippi is looking for ways to turn around its poor health rates so the state decided to bring some heath education to residents.

The inaugural Mississippi Health Disparities Conference was held today at the Coast Convention Center. The event hosted speakers and experts who talked about avenues and solutions to take in health disparities.

The convention hosted a variety of vendors in the field as well to share their information.

Mississippi INBRE Telenutrition Center Director Jennifer Lemacks believes there is no better time than now to have this event. “It’s been going great. Everybody’s ready to put their foot forward and to keep moving. We know this pandemic has given us reason and highlighted all the issues that we have with health disparities here in Mississippi. We know those things because we’re the experts in the field of health disparities and we are just happy to be here to be moving forward and to be solving these issues.”

The event hosted about 300 residents and ran from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
