Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA Healthy Kids Day Preview
It’s almost time for Healthy Kids Day! It’s a day full of free fun, a run, snacks, and activities.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA along with Biloxi, Ocean Springs Junior Auxiliary, and Let’s Go Gulf Coast is hosting Healthy Kids Day. This event is a free community event to help inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active. Healthy Kids Day is a national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families.
The one mile run for kids will start at 8:45 a.m. at Ft. Maurepas Park in Ocean Springs. If the weather does not permit the event will be at the Ryan Center.
Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA Healthy Living Director Joey Conwill tells News 25 why it is so important for kids to be active. “This is something we want to do because we see a lot of kids with their tablets, iPad or whatever and we need to get these kids moving, get them active. It’s so important that everybody, not only kids, get 30 minutes of activity every day. So, this is kind of a day or a morning to kind of celebrate that and be intentional about teaching our kids how to get active in a fun way.”
The first 100 kids to come will get a free t-shirt. A 5K Race of Discovery will also be in conjunction with the Healthy Kids Day.
