Mississippi Gulf Coast Softball Classic

When it comes to high school softball in the Magnolia State, the Gulf Coast always does it big, especially on opening weekend. The Gulfport Sportsplex is home to the state’s largest fast pitch event.
First pitch is Friday for the fourth annual Gulf Coast Softball Classic featuring 23 schools and 27 teams overall from around the state. This year, St. Patrick is sponsoring the tournament and taking charge in the scheduling department.
Headlining the field are seven teams that reached at least south state or north state in 2016, including the 3A Lady Irish, as well as the 5A runner-ups West Harrison and the 6A state champions Harrison Central.
This year marks the first time college teams won’t be participating due to field expansion at the sportsplex.
