The Mississippi Gulf Coast Kennel Club will host its 3rd Annual “Paws Under The Oaks”, an AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day event on Saturday, September 14th at Centennial Plaza, 200 East Beach Blvd. in Gulfport.
The event begins at 11 AM and continues until 3 PM. Admission is free and the public is invited to bring a picnic lunch and meet some of the breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club. Food vendors will also be available.
New this year will be our Pet Costume Contest (free to enter); prizes will be offered for Best Pet Costume, Best Child’s Costume, and Best Family Costume. Registration will take place from 11:00 until 11:30 AM. Dogs are welcome to attend and must be leashed at all times. Canine Good Citizen and Trick Dog testing will be available. We will also feature demonstrations for Rally, Canine Freestyle, Scent work, and Search and Rescue.
“Responsible dog ownership is one of the pillars of the American Kennel Club and we are thrilled to be able to bring back this educational program, celebrating the bond between human and canine,” said Mr. Dennis B. Sprung, President and CEO of the American Kennel Club. “This is such an important opportunity for both current and prospective dog owners alike to learn about the responsibilities that come with having a dog.”
The MGCKC will hold their annual Mississippi Gulf Coast Mardi Paw Cluster Dog Show beginning Friday, November 1st thru Sunday, November 3rd at the Harrison County Fairgrounds. The Mississippi Gulf Coast Working Group Club will hold two dog shows limited to working breeds on Friday, and the MGCKC will hold their all-breed shows on Saturday and Sunday. Specialty breed shows will also be held, featuring the Boxer Club of Louisiana and the Boston Terrier Club of Louisiana. FastCAT and Coursing Ability Test (CAT) will also be available all three days, as well as 4 to 6 month Beginner Puppy, National Owner Handled Series (NOHS) and Junior Showmanship will take place. Also, Canine Good Citizen, Trick Dog, and Temperament Testing will be held in the arena.
