Mississippi Emergency Management Agency prepares for Hurricane Sally

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is working around the clock to ensure the safety of residents during the storm.

As of 1 p.m. today, mandatory evacuations were set for low lying areas and anything south of the sea wall.

The Harrison County Fire Department is updating its staff to have more responders ready for inclement weather and they are planning ahead if additional help is needed.

Three shelters opened to the public earlier this afternoon: County Farm, Saucier Lizana, and Lobouy. The shelters are at limited capacity and will require masks and social distancing. Harrison County Health and Medical Disaster Officer Gregory Doyle said, “You need to be where you are going to be for this thing before it gets dark tonight cause when it gets dark and the weather starts getting bad, waters are going to rise, roads are going to flood. It’s going to be dangerous to be out on the road. You don’t want to be driving out on the road, unless it is a dire, crazy, life-threatening emergency.”
