Mississippi Dept. of Health reports 1,648 new COVID-19 cases, 98 deaths Tuesday morning
(WXXV) — The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting an additional 1,648 cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 98 new deaths as of Tuesday, January 12, 2021.
52 of the deaths reported occurred between January 5 and January 11, with 1 in Hancock County, 6 in Harrison County, 3 in Jackson County, and 1 in Pearl River County.
46 of the deaths occurred over the course of several weeks prior to January 8, 2021 and were later identified by death certificate reports. Of those deaths, 7 were reported in Harrison County and 1 was reported in Jackson County.
In the southernmost six counties of Mississippi, the numbers of COVID-19 cases were as follows:
- George — 1,929 (32 new)
- Hancock — 2,383 (13 new)
- Harrison — 12,447 (100 new)
- Jackson — 9,800 (83 new)
- Pearl River — 3,060 (19 new)
- Stone — 1,367 (9 new)
Mississippi’s total of COVID-19 cases now stands at 241,947, with 5,284 deaths.
Among cases and deaths already reported, MSDH has identified 16 new cases in residents of long-term care facilities, and 8 deaths. There are currently 222 ongoing outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities.
198,888 people in Mississippi are presumed to have recovered from COVID-19.
