Mississippi Dept. of Health reports 1,193 new COVID-19 cases, 51 deaths Tuesday morning
(WXXV) — The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting an additional 1,193 cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi and 51 new deaths as of Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
Sixteen deaths occurred between January 1 and January 18.
Thirty-five deaths occurred between December 14 and January 18, identified from death certificate reports. Of those deaths, 1 was reported in George County, 1 in Harrison County, 1 in Jackson County, and 1 in Pearl River County.
Mississippi’s total of COVID-19 cases for the year now stands at 255,125, with 5,574 deaths.
In the southernmost six counties of Mississippi, the numbers of COVID-19 cases were as follows:
- George — 1,998 cases (5 new) and 39 deaths (1 new)
- Hancock — 2,744 cases (10 new) and 59 deaths
- Harrison — 13,567 cases (65 new) and 194 deaths (1 new)
- Jackson — 10,453 cases (46 new) and 184 deaths (1 new)
- Pearl River — 3,301 cases (4 new) and 100 deaths (1 new)
- Stone — 1,447 cases (11 new) and 21 deaths
Among cases and deaths already reported, MSDH has identified 24 new cases in residents of long-term care facilities, and 13 deaths. There are currently 214 ongoing outbreaks of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities.
207,769 people in Mississippi are presumed to have recovered from COVID-19.
