Mississippi Department of Education discusses chronic absenteeism
WXXV News 25 spoke with Dr. Donna Boone, the Chief Academic Officer at the Mississippi Department of Education.
One of the major goals for the department this year is reducing absenteeism in the Magnolia State.
The department said about one out of every six students missed three weeks or more of school in 2015 – 2016.
These statistics prompted the department to work on ways to motivate students and parents to make school attendance a top priority.
