Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum expands with new building

Guests from the groundbreaking event got a glimpse into what’s going to be the largest model railroad museum in the country at the new building for the Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum.

The new 44,000 square foot building down Pass Road from where the existing museum is will be a place where children can play and be introduced to workforce development skills through a variety of train track exhibits.

The museum is also looking for sponsors and volunteers who want to get involved when it comes to planning programs with real trains as well as working with schools to book field trips and camps.

The museum was created by two brothers who collected and still love playing with trains. Model Railroad Museum Co-Founder Glenn Mueller said, “Kids that come in are going to be kids of all ages. There some like myself that still have a passion learning and growing and model railroad is one thing that attracts a lot of people. We’re going to really highlight the Coast features, everything from the aquarium to the equestrian center to the Port of the Gulfport and on. It’s going to be fun.”

The expansion is planned for a June 2023 opening.
