Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable discusses voting

Getting out the vote topped the agenda at the Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable Discussion in Biloxi this weekend.

The conversation is called ‘The Power of Sister Vote Boot Camp.’ The group says the goal is to connect black women across the state with tools and information they can use to drive voter participation in their communities.

Cassandra Welchlin with the Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable said, “We’re building a movement across the state to make sure that black women are standing in their power and speaking their voice at the voting booth.”

Allytra Perryman with the Mississippi State Conference, NAACP said, “We’re also looking at access to affordable quality health care and housing. Those are things that affect your entire life. Those are things that are important to all families, but disproportionately affect black families. So, we’re trying to encourage women to find their power, take their power to the ballot box to make some changes.”

The roundtable is one of eight discussions to be held across the state by the organization.
