Mississippi Bicentennial Celebration South starts tomorrow
Things are beginning to take shape at Centennial Plaza in Gulfport in preparation for Mississippi’s big birthday bash starting tomorrow.
Today people were out preparing the stages, setting out tents, hanging signs and more. Come tomorrow morning, Centennial Plaza will be bustling with people looking to enjoy everything Mississippi’s Bicentennial Celebration South has to offer. The state’s 26 southernmost counties will come together to showcase the state’s rich history, culture, food, and art.
Organizers say people are coming from near and far to help Mississippi celebrate 200 years of statehood. City of Gulfport Public Information Officer Chris Vignes said, “We have a lot to be proud of as Mississippians. We’re trying to show off a little bit of everything. We had a gentleman come in from Dallas yesterday, Shreveport, all throughout Mississippi, from the Delta, Tupelo, all kinds of different families coming in to make it a special event.”
