Mississippi Aviation Heritage Museum offering summer camp

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- This summer, kids are taking flight at the Mississippi Aviation Heritage Museum Summer Camp.

Students in grades six through 12 can dive into the world of aeronautics.

From flight simulators and drones to 3D printing, robotics, and even aviation sheet metal, campers are getting a real, hands-on experience.

They even help build a real airplane.

It’s a rare chance to explore aviation and engineering in a way traditional classrooms just can’t offer. Volunteer Roger Kovac said, “We’re building a Zenith CH 7 0 1. It’s A-S-T-O-L. It’s a short takeoff for landing airplane. Has two seats and it’ll be fun to fly.  I wanted to share that feeling with the next generation of kids that are here. Uh, enjoying putting it together. I’m just so happy that the museum allowed me to be like a traveling exhibit or whatever you want to call it, to be here temporarily, to, to build the airplane and share my knowledge and experience with the next generation.”

Camp numbers are low so it’s a great time to sign up. Click here to register. The camp runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch included on June 23-25 and July 7-9.
