Mississippi Aquarium, Southern Miss unveil plastic pollution exhibit ‘Toxic Beauty’
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- The Mississippi Aquarium and Southern Miss have partnered to unveil a new interactive exhibit highlighting the impact of plastic pollution.
‘Toxic Beauty: Plastic’s Hidden Cost’ features artwork made from debris collected during Gulf Coast beach cleans ups by local artists.
Organizers say nearly 3,000 pounds of trash were gathered for the project, which explores how plastic affects marine life, coastal environments, and human health.
The exhibit is open through September 7.
Visitors to the aquarium who view the exhibit are encouraged to take part in a survey aimed at measuring how the experience may change attitudes and behaviors surrounding plastic waste.
