Mississippi Aquarium preps animals for cold weather

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — With freezing temperatures hitting the coast, the Mississippi Aquarium is making sure their animals are staying warm and comfy.

It’s not every day south Mississippi sees temperatures drop below freezing — and when they do, it’s important to protect our pets, plants, and people. At the Mississippi Aquarium, staff have a plan in place for the many animals that require special care when the weather takes a sudden cold turn.

While some animals are able to remain in their temperature-controlled habitats, the aviary is a different story. It’s the most impacted habitat at the aquarium when temperatures drop.

The aviary may be light on birds, but every exhibit at the aquarium remains open, and the animals don’t appear too bothered by the cold.

The Mississippi Aquarium has changed its hours of operation as the cold weather sticks around. For more information, visit their social media pages here, or visit their website.
