Mississippi Aquarium holds Pancakes for Penguins fundraiser

Over the weekend, the Mississippi Aquarium hosted its Pancakes for Penguins fundraising event.

Families enjoyed breakfast while taking photos with a pair of African penguins and learning more about the species.

The event is a fundraiser for the aquarium, all part of its ongoing $9 million project to create a new penguin habitat. Mississippi Aquarium VP of Marketing Patrick Pearson said, “We are devoting a lot of resources this year to raising the final $3 million we need. We have about 6 million of the 9 million it’s going to take to build it. So, if you brought your checkbook, you know, we’ll take a check.”

Attendee Marie Laptsa said, “Experience they get to, and they also get to learn why they’re here too, which is pretty much it’s to help them get a home for her and they get to learn about conservation of the penguins and what the penguin’s need and just get the up-close experience with them.”

If you missed this one, don’t worry. Penguins for Pancakes will be back at the Mississippi Aquarium on July 13th and July 14th from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
