Mississippi Aquarium holds a Mermaid Mini Cruise

After last week’s severe weather postponed their grand entrance, the mermaids at the Mississippi Aquarium are finally having their Mini Cruise Welcome Parade.

All five mermaids rode in classic and exotic cars earlier this evening in what turned out to be a farewell parade.

The Pass High Pirates band and cheerleaders, along with members of the Krewe of Mystic Seahorses, kicked off the mini cruise circling the block around the aquarium.

The mermaids aren’t only fun to watch and interact with, each of them has a conservation message they promote as well. Mississippi Aquarium Public Relations and Communications Director Jeff Clark said, “It’s been great. We’ve had really good crowds. The mermaids are just amazing to watch. It’s a really great event. And we had some members from the Krewe of Mystic Seahorse who were actual pirates come and you know, who better to thank the mermaids than the Pass High Pirates band. So, they came over as well.”

Clark says the mermaids were such a hit that the aquarium hopes to bring them back every year.
