Mississippi Aquarium celebrates Dolphin Awareness Month

March is Dolphin Awareness Month and who better to talk about it than the Mississippi Aquarium?

The Mississippi Aquarium will be sharing videos and contact all month long about their four bottlenose friends: Fin, Archer, Axel, and Nigel.

Some interesting facts about dolphins include that they can make their own signature whistle that’s basically like their name.

Despite their appearance, dolphins are not slimy like you might think but actually feel like a hotdog or hardboiled egg.

One of the Mississippi Aquarium’s three pillars is conservation and they hope their dolphins will not only educate, but serve as ambassadors for dolphins in the wild. Mississippi Aquarium Senior Biologist Deneke Fripp said, “Dolphins are threatened in the wild by pollution. There’s a lot of garbage out there. There are entanglements. Dolphins are suffering from food and habitat destruction. So, we want to make sure that when people come out to the Mississippi Aquarium, they create the desire to help preserve the Gulf of Mexico.”

To learn more about these magnificent creatures you can meet them and the dolphin team by booking your visit to the Mississippi Aquarium.
