Mississippi abortion clinic files to state Supreme Court

Mississippi’s only abortion clinic has filed an appeal with the state Supreme Court with hopes of reopening the clinic next week.

Jackson Women’s Health Organization closed its doors Wednesday in advance of the state’s trigger law regarding abortion going into effect yesterday.

Earlier this week, a state judge denied the clinic’s request for preliminary injunction and refused to block a separate law that bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy.

In their appeal to the Supreme Court, Jackson Women’s Health Organization reiterated their belief the Mississippi Constitution outlines a right to privacy that includes abortion.
